Mr D C Jeffels

A Journalist working for regional newspapers, he was born and educated in Scarborough. He lives in West Ayton and is married to Marilyn and has two children, Lyndon, a barrister and a daughter Siobhan, a solicitor in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

A senior member of North Yorkshire County Council and the current Chairman. Former chairman of the Care and Independence and Transport, Economy and Environment Committee, David has been a Scarborough Borough Council member since 1973 and former Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and Community Services. He is former Chairman of the British Resorts Association and of the York and North Yorkshire Playing Fields Association, Trustee and Council Member of the National Playing Fields Association, past Chairman of the Yorkshire Rural Community Council and Rural Action Yorkshire of which he is still a trustee, and represented the Borough Council on the Board of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, North York Moors National Park Authority, the Yorkshire Tourist Board Council, and Yorkshire Cultural Partnership.

David was Mayor of Scarborough in 1983-84. He represents the North York Moors National Park on Welcome to Yorkshire, and served for several years as Chairman of the Park Authority's Finance, Risk and Standards Committee. Member of the Durham and Tees Valley Airport Committee, trustee of the Yorkshire and Humberside Forum for Older People, and Chairman of Scarborough Council's Health and Wellbeing Committee.He is Joint Chairman of the North Yorkshire Flood Protection Committee.
