Mr Malcolm Bowes

I recall going to a talk and the speaker said "... and of course the moors are a man made environment!". Although not totally accurate, this does emphasise that man has had an impact on the moors for thousands of years and it is this relationship, past, present and future, between man and the environment that I find fascinating.

As a resident I am aware of the modern pressures affecting communities and the decline in local services. National Parks are not museums, but places where people live, work and enjoy themselves. It is essential that we continue to support local communities and help them to help themselves to protect and enhance local services and culture. Tourism is particularly important for the local economy but the many small businesses need to work together and promote the North York Moors. This is a high priority for the Authority and I am pleased to be involved in this work. I am also Deputy Chair of the Authority.

Favourite Place in the National Park

Brian's Pond between Raisdale and Scugdale. A peaceful spot between two beautiful dales, and the walk up provides some superb views.
