Access for all
Wheelchair Loan
2 electric scooters and 1 manual wheelchair are available for use (free of charge) in the Centre and grounds. It is currently not possible to take the electric scooters across the main (A170) road.
Parking Facilities
The car park (charge payable) is approximately 300 yards (270m) away from the entrance to the Centre. You’ll find 3 bays designated for disabled drivers. The car park surface is tarmac. There is level access from the car parks (front and rear of the Centre) to the entrance.
Toilet Facilities
There is a RADAR accessible toilet on site. A key is available from the Information Desk if required. Baby changing facilities are available in the disabled access toilet.
External Access
There is level access into the Centre through double doors – maximum width 64 inches (162cm).
Internal Access
There is level access in the foyer of the Visitor Centre and then level access from there into the exhibition, shop and tearooms. Internal doorways are 64 inches (162cm) wide. There is limited seating available in the exhibition area. Seating is of course available in the tearooms.
Access to Grounds
There is level access to the grounds of the Centre. The ‘Window on the Park’ trail is accessible for wheelchair users. Paths are made out of tarmac.
At the Sutton Bank Centre you’ll find designated parking bays for disabled drivers and accessible toilets (RADAR key required – available from the Centre when it’s open).
Facilities for visually impaired visitors
There are some tactile exhibits in the ‘Window on the Park’ exhibition – including fossils.
Facilities for Hearing Impaired Visitors
A loop system is installed in the information desk.
Easy Going Routes
There is a wheelchair accessible route from the Sutton Bank Centre which takes you to the top of the White Horse of Kilburn and gives you ample opportunity to savour one of the finest views in England. The route is linear and is 2.7km (1.7 miles) long (there and back).
It is also possible to follow the escarpment edge to the north for about a km overlooking Lake Gormire.
