Activities at Sutton Bank
Please note that there are no classroom facilities or indoor areas for eating packed lunches available at this centre.
White Horse Walk
A spectacular, circular walk of 4 km from Sutton Bank National Park Centre. A well marked path takes us along the edge of the escarpment, past the Yorkshire Gliding Club and on to the famous White Horse of Kilburn. We then descend the White Horse steps and wind our way through woodland before heading back to Sutton Bank top via the Thieves’ Highway. Pupils are provided with O.S. maps and aerial photographs and along the way various geographical skills are introduced such as map reading, grid references, map symbols, using scales, identifying landscape features and land use, field sketching.

Every Child Matters: Physical exercise outdoors, enhanced enjoyment through participation in inspiring learning opportunities, developing a sense of respect and care for the environment.
Age Range: Year 7 (Age 12) upwards.
Duration: Half day (up to two and a half hours, or 3 hours with time for a picnic lunch).
Window on the Park Exhibition
The exhibition in Sutton Bank National Park Centre tells the story of the limestone landscape in the south of the
National Park. Admission to the exhibition is free but groups are requested to book in advance. This activity is self-guided. Exhibition quiz sheets are available for KS3 pupils at 50p each or free if booked with another activity.
