Archaeology
The National Park Authority, through its Archaeological Conservation Officer, provides information and advice relating to the archaeology of the region, and also maintains the Historic Envionment Record. The latter, together with subsidiary databases, provides information on recorded sites and finds within the National Park, and these are subject to continuous enhancement.
Although not formally classified within the record, sites are generally considered to be either of national, regional or local significance. Sites of national significance will generally be legally protected and known as Scheduled Monuments. For further information you can contact us or English Heritage.
