Caring for the Heritage Coast
The eastern boundary of the National Park is made up of rugged cliffs, small river inlets and wide sandy beaches. This is the North Yorkshire & Cleveland Heritage Coast and contains a wealth of interest for all ages.
Heritage Coast Management
The Heritage Coast is cared for by a partnership of local people, local authorities and national government agencies. With funding from a number of the partners, a coastal partnership project was initiated in 1997 to enable work from the coastal management plan to be delivered in conjunction with local people. The partnership currently employs a Coastal Projects Officer who concentrates on a wide variety of schemes identified in the plan.
North Yorkshire & Cleveland Coastal Forum
In July 2002, the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Coastal Forum was created for everyone with an interest in management of the local coastline to become involved and have a say in its management. Full Forum meetings are held once a year with an executive group overseeing and steering the Forum and an Officers Groups providing support for both the Forum and Project Officer. Topics discussed are as wide ranging as off shore wind farms to village enhancements and wildlife habitat restoration. Boundaries of the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Coastal Forum coincide with the coastal management cell from Saltburn to Flamborough.

Future Work of the Project
The Heritage Coast plan contains an array of wide ranging schemes to further enhance the quality of the coast. Further work planned for the Heritage Coast can be viewed in the Heritage Coast Management Plan 2008 –2013.
