Conservation
All National Parks in England and Wales have two purposes:
- to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Parks
- to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the Parks by the public.
These purposes govern everything that the North York Moors National Park Authority does.
Caring for a place with such a stunning landscape and a rich wildlife and cultural heritage is a tremendous challenge and a great responsibility.
The North York Moors National Park Authority staff work closely with local people and other agencies to conserve this special place, seeking opportunities to enhance the appearance and biodiversity whenever they can.
The successful conservation of the North York Moors National Park depends very much on the local community and its economic viability. The North York Moors is a manmade landscape and increasingly, the Park Authority looks at ways of encouraging businesses which use the special qualities of the area without damaging them.
