Conservation and Biodiversity

The North York Moors National Park contains not only the largest continuous area of heather moorland in England and Wales, but also a variety of other important habitats such as grassland, wetland, woodland, rivers, farmland and a spectacular Heritage Coast. Around a third of the Park is designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and much of this is also designated at an international level as Special Area of Conservation or as Special Protection Area.
