Current consultations
The Helmsley Plan
The National Park Authority and Ryedale District Council are working closely with Helmsley Town Council to prepare a new Plan for Helmsley. The first stage of consultation seeks comments from residents, businesses and a wide range of organisations on what the Plan should contain. The consultation runs from 16th January to 2nd March and a Discussion Paper has been prepared to provide further information and the background to the Plan. The Discussion Paper can be viewed by clicking on the link below. A Scoping Report has been produced to meet the requirements for Sustainability Appraisal and comments can also be made on this document.
The number of new dwellings and amount of employment land in Helmsley will be established through the Ryedale Local Plan. Ryedale District Council will shortly be consulting on the publication version of this document and hope to submit it to the Secretary of State for examination in the early summer.
A number of potential sites for development were discussed in 2009 as part of the consultation on the Ryedale Core Strategy document. A map identifying the sites already put forward is shown on the Discussion Paper as a record of previous consultation only. More details on these sites can be found on Ryedale’s website by clicking here. No decisions have been made on any sites and it is the purpose of the Helmsley Plan to consider and finalise land allocations in due course. A number of responses were received from a range of stakeholders to this initial consultation.
Please note that the Site Selection Methodology developed by Ryedale District Council will also be used to assess the site allocations in Helmsley and further information can be found by clicking here.
Comments about what the Plan should contain or on the Scoping Report are welcomed using the form below and should be returned by email to policy@northyorkmoors-npa.gov.uk or by post to Planning Policy Team, The Old Vicarage, Bondgate, Helmsley, North Yorkshire YO62 5BP by 2nd March 2012.
