Farmed land

Farndale
The farmed land of the National Park makes a wonderful mosaic of grassland, cropped land, woodland, watercourses and buildings, which changes dramatically in character across the Park and through the seasons.

Over centuries, the land has been intensively farmed to produce food and other necessities of life. Landscape and biodiversity are really just a by-product but today they make the National Park what it is.

About 40 per cent of the National Park is farmed and there are three very different areas, the Tabular and Hambleton Hills in the south and west of the Park; the upland dales; and the coastal plateau.
