Flood Risk

Planning policy seeks to ensure that flood risk is taken into account at all stages of the planning process to avoid inappropriate development in areas at risk of flooding. Planning Policy Guidance Note PPG 25: Development and flood risk published in 2001 sets out government policy. At a local level the indicative flood plain maps on the Environment Agency's website set out the flood maps, the associated risk of flooding and provide a matrix to give standing advice to householders, developers and local planning authorities of the relevant considerations.

To access the current flood plain maps click here. Please note this will take you to the Environment Agency's website. You will need to know the postcode or name of the town where you wish to access information on.

The principal local plan policy relevant to flooding is Policy U5, see local plan section of website for details.
