How does the National Park Authority help to look after historical remains?

The National Park Authority’s archaeologist works closely with a national organisation called English Heritage. English Heritage looks after historical remains and important buildings all over England and owns many castles, abbeys and houses. You might have visited some of these already. Surveys are carried out and records are kept of all the sites that have been discovered.

Many of the remains are on private land and the National Park Authority can provide advice to landowners on how to look after these special places. In some cases the Park Authority can help by drawing up a management agreement for the landowner to follow and may be able to offer grants or money to help them to do this.
