How does the National Park Authority help to look after the coast?
There are farms, caravan sites, villages, footpaths, fields and woodland along the coast and it is important that everybody helps to keep the coastline beautiful. The National Park Authority can give advice and grants to landowners along the coast to help them care for their land.
The National Park also looks after the footpaths and bridleways on the coast, including a long distance walk called the Cleveland Way that follows the coast for part of its route. This walk is very popular and keeping the Cleveland Way safe and in good repair is a big job.

The National Park Authority also helps to pay for the Heritage Coast Project. This project provides money and advice to help landowners and local people look after land and the villages along the coast. Work might include tree planting to screen or hide big caravan sites, clearing overgrown paths, repairing dry stone walls, beach cleans and work on special buildings.
