How to apply
There are three ways to apply for planning permission:

Our planning staff our always willing to help. If you want to know more about a planning issue or want advice on a proposal, please contact one of our planning staff who deals with your area.
If you think you may not require planning permission, or if you wish to check before starting any works, please fill in the details on our Do I Need Planning Permission form and the Authority will provide you, free of charge, with a Development Enquiry Check.
If you would like to know whether a change of use or a particular development eg conservatory needs planning permission, the Authority has a pre-prepared form which asks all the necessary questions. There is a charge of £10 for a response to a 'do I need planning permission?' enquiry. We will endeavour to reply within ten working days, however it should be noted that this timescale may not always be achievable due to many contributing factors such as the complexity of the development/history of the site or in some instances the need to undertake a site visit. If you want to know more about the planning system generally, contact the online Planning Advice service at the National Planning Portal website.
Guidance Notes
If your proposal is for local needs housing, a Local Occupancy Proforma should be included with the application. Applications where affordable housing is to be provided as part of an open market development should include an Affordable Housing Proposal Form. See the Housing Supplementary Planning Document for further information.
If your proposal is for five or more houses or for a non residential use of 200 square metres or more, renewable energy features must be included with the proposal to offset at least 10% of CO2 emissions. The Calculating the 10% requirement form should be submitted with your planning application. See the Renewable Energy Supplementary Planning Document for further information.
