Local Needs Housing
Although open market housing development is permitted in the larger settlements at the edge of the National Park (Helmsley and the Service Villages), all new housing development in other villages will be subject to a local occupancy condition. Local occupancy restrictions will also be applied in certain other circumstances, for example where a replacement dwelling is built.
Planning applications for Local Needs Housing development should include a Local Occupancy Proforma which provides information about the proposed occupants of the dwellings. Click on the link below to see the Proforma.
Any person wishing to purchase a property which has a local occupancy restriction should complete a Local Occupancy Proforma and send it to dc@northyorkmoors-npa.gov.uk to obtain written approval that they comply with the local occupancy requirement. There is a small fee for this service.
