Moors Message for horseriders
Care for the land - The moors, their plants and animals are fragile and sensitive. Keep to the path and avoid poaching the surface in wet weather.
Consider the farmers - Shut gates behind you. Ride slowly past sheep or cattle.
Guard against fire - Uncontrolled fires can devastate miles of moorland which may never fully recover. Don't start fires or drop cigarettes or matches.
Litter - This is dangerous as well as unsightly - take it home.
Dogs - Keep dogs under close control. A loose dog can harm sheep and ground nesting birds, and can be a danger to itself.
Courtesy to other users - Ride with consideration towards other road and path users. Slow down where visibility is restricted and ride very cautiously on country roads - remember, you are part of the traffic.
Safety - Weather conditions can change quickly, are you fully equipped? Plan your journey carefully and aim to end it well before dusk, especially on dark winter days.
Rights of way - Footpaths are not meant for horses. Only ride on bridleways and where you have permission.
