National Parks Week 2011
Come celebrate the very best of Britain's countryside! This is National Parks Week when people all over the UK are enjoying a host of activities designed to give everyone the chance to explore and discover the special qualities of our National Parks.
From climbing, and canoeing to guided walks and workshops, there's something for everyone!
Try your hand at candle rolling, making tee-shirts and pot making. .
What's On at The Moors National Park Centre
Inspiring Landscapes Inspiring People
Launch of National Parks Week - Sunday 24th July, 11am to 4.30pm.
This event is the biggest event on our National Parks event calendar and marks the beginning of the celebration of our heritage and culture.
Immerse yourself in the sights, sound and smells of our heritage with the Danelaw Living History Group and find out about local dialect, songs and customs.
See artists, musicians and dancers at work. Find out about sheep shearing, spinning and moorland management. Join in pot making, candle rolling, fossil identification and more. Have a go at archery. £4.00 for as many goes as you like. Children to be accompanied by an adult.
Join in on a Rivers and Woodlands Scavenger Hunt - a guided walk along the River Esk, looking at its wildlife and woodland. Meet a variety of different animals and plants that live in the Esk valley! Ideal for children. The event is free.
In the Inspired by Gallery
Paintings, drawings, prints and woodwork inspired by trees. Delicate paintings by Caroline Riley combine with wooden items made from wind blown trees by Mike Waring.
Word and Song From Around the Park - Learn more about our culture and heritage through word and song with poets, story tellers, authors and singers who have made the National Park their home. Various times throughout the day. Also showing The Persuaders - a play from a local drama group at 12 noon to 12.45pm and 2.15pm to 3.00pm.

Specially for youngsters - Wonderful Ways with Wool, Suzie Squirrel's Woodland Walk, Hideaway in the Woods and an Introduction to Geocaching.

Rosie Rabbit visits Sutton Bank - story walk with activities and Get Diggy With It - have a go a being an archaeological detective. (Childrens' events). Roulston Scar Fort and the Kilburn White Horse guided walk, A Fort, a Castle and a View guided walk
