Organising events

National Parks are very special places designated for their great natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage, and the opportunities they provide for quiet enjoyment. The following guidelines have been produced by the North York Moors National Park Authority with the aim of ensuring that events within the National Park are well planned, well located and well organised. Such planning and care is vital to conserve the natural and cultural environment and to prevent conflict with the interests of farmers and local communities and other people using the area.

Plan your event well in advance

Allow time to obtain permissions and for proper consultation with other interested parties.

Much of the moorland in the National Park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and recreation events on those areas will normally require approval from Natural England.

The National Park Authority can assist by incorporating planned events for the forthcoming calendar year into an annual authorisation meeting we hold with Natural England in November. In all other cases, Natural England will need to be approached direct, giving at least four months notice.
