Parish Plans
The Authority is committed to helping parishes produce Parish Plans for their areas, working in partnership with other organisations such as Rural Action Yorkshire. Parish Plans set out the aspirations of the community on a wide range of issues with an action plan to help implement these. Osmotherley, Ampleforth and Thornton le Dale parishes have all completed Parish Plans in recent years.
Some parishes are taking forward the planning ‘elements’ of their Parish Plans as Village Design Statements. These will be adopted as Supplementary Planning Documents where possible and will become part of the Local Development Framework which means that they will have weight in making decisions on planning applications.
A Village Design Statements for Hutton Buscel was adopted by the Authority in 2010. Consultation on a draft Village Design Statement for Osmotherley and Thimbleby has recently taken place and a final version of the document will be considered by the Planning Committee in due course.
