Planning Service Improvement Plan

A Review of the Planning service finished in February 2005 and an Improvement Plan for the service has been approved by Members. The Review included a study of the quality of the ‘end products’ of planning decisions in the Park including cases where new development had gone ahead and some where permission was refused. The study concluded that whilst the ‘special qualities’ of the National Park had been protected, there were a number of ‘qualitative’ aspects of the service that could be improved. The Improvement Plan includes measures to strengthen the enforcement service, improve partnerships with Parish Councils, improve the accessibility of the service, publish a National Park Design Guide and start a new Design Award scheme. The Plan will be put into place over the next 5 years and can be viewed below. A report outlining the Review process is also available on request.
