Recreation and tourism
Each year around nine million days are spent by people visiting the North York Moors. They come for a variety of reasons – to walk, to admire the scenery, for a drink or meal at a local pub - amongst many other things.
This number of visitors clearly has an impact on the lives of the National Park residents and upon the environment. Many local businesses rely upon these visitors for their livelihood.
The National Park Authority works in many ways to promote enjoyment and encourage understanding of the area by the public and to balance this with conservation of what makes the place special. This includes producing information and interpretation, managing public rights of way and access areas, car parks and toilets and having a Ranger Service.
