Rights of Way

Rights of WayThe North York Moors National Park has 2322km of footpaths, bridleways and byways open to all traffic providing access to the countryside for enjoyment and quiet recreation. The National Park Authority is responsible for these routes, but landowners and managers have responsibilities too. These are summarised in our Advice Note.

Replacement gates and stiles can be provided free of charge, but new structures across public rights of way need prior consent. The process is set out in our Advice Note.

Path signing and bridge construction, drainage and surfacing may also be carried out by the Authority. Free advice on most legal problems including path creation, and diversion and definitive map issues is also available.
