The hand of man

Industrial Archaeology - BoulbyFishermen, farmers, miners and visitors, just a few of the groups who, over the centuries have made an impact on this coastscape. Fishermen were probably the first settlers, farmers have clothed the hinterland and miners have physically altered the very shape of parts of the coastline. The impact of visitors coming to enjoy the coastline probably began in earnest with the Victorian development of the railways and the establishment of spas.
