The Moors National Park Centre
The Moors National Park Centre, our flagship visitor centre in Danby, near Whitby, has been given an exciting new facelift. The new-look centre now provides much more for visitors to see and do in all weather and promotes local arts and crafts.
The £1.2million project was supported by European Regional Development Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Yorventure through the Yorwaste Ltd Landfill Communities Fund, North Sea Trail and the North York Moors National Park Authority.
To date, as a result of the redevelopment project:
• 45 local jobs have been created or safeguarded
• 238 local businesses have been supported
• 17 tonnes of carbon dioxide have been saved
• 53 volunteers have between them spent 200 days carrying out improvements to the footpaths and grounds
The project is now complete and the Centre was officially opened by local mountaineer, Alan Hinkes OBE on 10 September 2007.
You can read about the different stages of the development below.
The project is being supported by Yorkshire Forward, the Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The play area was funded by Yorventure.
