Tree and hedgerow regulations
There are certain legal requirements to consider when planning tree work, planting or felling trees and removal of hedgerows.
Because the felling of trees is often of concern to a wide variety of people (such as neighbours or local residents), it's often helpful to discuss the matter first with National Park staff and to inform the Parish Council and the Forestry Commission, even if you think you're not required to by law.
These pages are intended to help you and to ensure that you understand your legal obligations. If you are unsure, please contact us.
The National Park Authority is responsible for maintaining registers of applications and notifications to carry out work on protected trees and to remove hedgerows. The registers are currently held at the National Park Office and you can arrange to see them by telephoning Rachel Smith on 01439 770657. It is our intention to make the registers available on this site in the near future.
