Using the assets of the area
The Developing the Assets of Protected Areas (DAPA) project ran from 2002 to 2005 and offered free assistance and advice for people starting or developing businesses in the North York Moos National Park and Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The project aimed to:
- Be a local point of contact for existing and potential business
- Help with getting new business ideas started
- Initiate early planning advice
- Identify suitable sources of funding
- Help complete funding applications
- Develop networks for complementary businesses
Examples of projects that were assisted:
- Charcoal production/marketing - you can download a report of the feasibility study into the markets for charcoal fines in our Publications section.
- Marketing locally produced food, drink and crafts - a Local Produce Guide was published which can be downloaded in our Publications section.
- Wildflower seed production - you can download a report of the feasibility study which investigated the economic and practical viability of harvesting local-origin wildflower and grass seed in our Publications section.
The DAPA project was jointly funded by the National Park Authority and Yorkshire Forward (the Regional Development Agency)
