Villages and buildings

A rich architectural legacy, a living, historic, 3-dimensional archive; from polite 18th century design to the unprepossessing vernacular cottage; buildings in the Moors have a tale to tell.
Discover a worked landscape punctuated by solid agricultural buildings, or coastal villages, tightly huddled, sheltering building-against-building in the security of the bay, or the power of the country house commanding, dominating, redefining the landscape.
Spot the medieval window. Notice the Victorian letter box, the mile marker, the street sign. Capture the view of a distant church. Pause and appreciate a yard. Look into the distance, look closely, look up, look down, look through, look beyond and watch history unfold before your eyes.
If you would like to see a wonderful collection of traditional buildings rescued from this area visit the Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton le Hole.
