There are lots of exciting cycling and mountain bike events in the North York Moors area for all ages, whether you're a seasoned cyclist, a beginner looking to improve your skills or simply looking for a great family day out. If you like to combine mountain biking with trail running, take a look at Adventure racing events too.

Mountain biking/cyclo cross and gravel racing

24 – 25 June 2017 – Yorkshire True Grit (gravel grinding event)
Location: Returning for a second outing in 2017, this off-road endurance adventure challenge across the North York Moors uses gravel tracks and trails with a choice of three routes: The Drive (40 miles) or The Outlaw (60 miles) both on 24 June, and The Stampede (20 miles) on 25 June. There'll be classes for gravel, mountain, singlespeed, fat and electric bikes. There's a special family ticket for The Stampede – where two paying adults can have two accompanying children's places for free. Starting from High Paradise Farm near Boltby, camping will be available too.

19 – 20 August 2017 – The Aggregate 100K (a mix between American gravel racing and MTB Enduro)
Location: North York Moors, starting from The New Inn, Cropton - a 100km loop with 4 timed stages and your aggregate score to count (solo or pairs) plus camping

16 – 17 September 2017 – Ard Moors Enduro and Ard Moors Sprint
Location: From Lord Stones County Park

From the organisers of 'Ard Rock in the Yorkshire Dales, an Enduro with timed downhill stages on the North York Moors with steep trails, flat out singletrack and a proper 'Ard adventure! NEW for 2017 'Ard Moors Sprint has been added, taking in 4 out of the 5 #Ard Moors stages on a slightly shorter route, but still with over 2000m of combined climbing and descending! Expect steep trails, lots of singletrack, local beer and entertainment on the Saturday evening too!

16 July 2017 - 11h Annual Moors Marathon (Enduro) (Mountain Bike Orienteering)
Location: Fox & Rabbit Inn, Lockton - a choice of four challenge rides of 100, 70, 50 or 25k around the North York Moors inc. Dalby Forest with certificates and commemorative mugs for all riders who complete the route in 10/8/6/4 hours.

28 August 2017 – White Rose - Helmsley (3hr MBO Score event)

15 July 2017 - Stockton Sportive
Location: Stockton with a choice of four routes, from the fairly flat Spin (37 miles) for the first time Sportive rider, through to the Tour de Moor at 106 miles, with over 11,000ft of climbing.

19 August 2017 - Whitby Regatta Sportive
Location: Whitby with three hilly routes to choose from (31.9, 58 and 78.5 miles) and up to 9,000ft of climbing.

30 September 2017 - White Horse Sportive
Location: Nunthorpe across the North York Moors with a choice of three routes (30, 60.5 and 77 miles)

Open Adventure

24 June 2017 - Coast to Coast in a Day
Location: Seascale to Whitby via Great Broughton, Kildale, Esk Valley. This annual event is very popular and you are advised to book a year in advance.

UK Cycling Events

23 July 2017 - Scarborough Sportive
Location: Scarborough (start and finish), heading across the North York Moors National Park
Four routes to choose, from 56 miles through to 74, 99, and up to the challenging 120 mile route with more than 11000ft of climbing. The routes will give you a true taste of the North York Moors, with the black route including the infamous Chimney Bank at Rosedale, which vies with Cumbria's Hardknott Pass as England's steepest public road. 20 August 2017 - Ladies Only Charity Sportive
Location: Carlton Lodge Activity Centre, near Thirsk (start and finish), with a choice of three routes (30, 60 and 103 miles) heading into the National Park on the medium and long routes, with a few hills thrown in. Book online.

Wiggle Super Series Sportive

30 September 2017: Wiggle Super Series Ay Up! Yorkshire Sportive
Location: Thirsk. Part of the popular Wiggle Super Series, with three routes taking you around the North York Moors National Park with a number of testing hills (32, 56 and 91 miles). Book online.

Cycling festivals and spectator events 2017

6 August - Ryedale Grand Prix Weekend

Location: Ampleforth College
Including HSBC UK National Women's Road Series and HSBC UK Grand Prix Series - Ryedale Grand Prix.

12 - 13 August 2017 - Scarborough Festival of Cycling

A packed weekend including closed circuit road and grass track racing, sportive, BMX and "come and try" events. Located at various venues including Oliver's Mount and Hairy Bob's Skate Park.  

A complete list of British Cycling affiliated events is also available for Yorkshire. Local cycling clubs also hold organised club rides, with routes that will often take in the beautiful North York Moors.
