Situated within the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the approach to Castle Howard is as breathtaking as the arrival. The magnificent 18th century house - home to the Howard family - has dramatic interiors filled with world-renowned collections.

Inside friendly and knowledgeable guides share the stories of the house and family, while outside guided tours explore the monumental landscape dotted with temples, lakes, statues and fountains.

With peaceful woodland and lakeside walks, 18th century walled garden with Rose collection and ornamental vegetable garden, as well as a changing programme of exhibitions and events - including the Castle Howard Proms Spectacular which lights up the sky every August.

Families will particularly enjoy riding the land-train to the adventure playground, summer boat trips on the Great Lake, and an illustrated children's trail. All this, plus a choice of cafés and shops - including gift shops, a farm shop and garden centre - will keep the family entertained all day.

The Estate is also home to the Yorkshire Arboretum, a 120 acre garden of trees from around the world.

Accessibility

Plenty of parking for blue badge holders, just a short walk from the ticket entrance (hearing loop). Land transport carriers visitors between the ticket office, house entrance and lakeside - this runs every 20 minutes and is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Pathways are a mix of tarmac, gravel and grass.

Paths and doorways are ramped for easy access, and inside the house a wheelchair lift takes disabled visitors to the main floor of the house where all rooms are accessible except for the High South and Chapel. Accessible toilets and hearing loop also available.
