Meet the Artist: Saturday 15 April, 12 noon to 3pm

Maggie Moore studied Visual Art at Bretton Hall College of Leeds University. On graduating in 1979 she went on to teach art in secondary schools in South Yorkshire and Beverley.

In 1986 she moved to London to pursue a career as a practising artist, while continuing to teach part time in a sixth-form college. Maggie soon established a reputation for her equestrian work, and exhibited regularly with the Osborne Studio Gallery in Covent Garden, Cork Street and Belgravia.

In 1992 Maggie returned to East Yorkshire and continued to paint and exhibit while bringing up her two children. Increasingly influenced by the wildlife of the Yorkshire Wolds and coast, she began to paint the animals and birds that she saw around her home, while still capturing the sense of energy and movement that she had developed in her equestrian paintings.

Maggie is also inspired by religion, mythology, poetry and literature, and most of her work is a visual interpretation of a poem, legend or passage. Although she works in a variety of media, Maggie particularly enjoys the immediacy of drawing and lino cutting, as well as the mark-making properties of charcoal which she often combines with gouache or acrylic.

Maggie is a member of East Riding Artists..
