A Victorian Christmas
2nd December 2017 10am - 4pm
This event is organised by Ryedale Folk Museum
On Saturday 2 December and Sunday 3 December from 10am to 4pm each day, Ryedale Folk Museum will open its doors for free to the public.
The Museum will come to life with festive fun for all the family, including the opportunity to visit Green Father Christmas or ‘Old Winter’ - he will meet children whilst sat by the fire in one of the Museum’s most characterful old buildings (£3 per child). There will be plenty of opportunities for photographs and each child will receive a small gift from Old Winter’s present chest.
The weekend-long event will focus on how the Victorians celebrated Christmas. Visitors can find out about the many Christmas traditions which began or were popularised by the Victorians, from the Christmas tree to sending season’s greeting cards. Children’s craft activities and Victorian ‘dress-up’ will take place throughout the weekend too.
There'll be a pop-up café selling hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches, as well as hot sausage rolls and mulled wine served from the Victorian range.
