What is a native tree?
Native trees are trees that grow naturally in this country.
If a species of tree has been growing here since the last Ice Age ended 10 000 years ago it is described as a native tree.
Oak, Ash,Hazel and Rowan are examples of native British trees.
Many types of trees have been brought from other countries, like Horse Chestnut (Conker trees).
Native tree species are important because they are better suited to this special landscape and the wildlife that lives in it. The National Park Authority encourages people to grow native trees.
