Why are rivers important?

Rivers provide:
- A habitat for wildlife;
- Water for us to drink;
- Water for crops and farm animals;
- Water for industries that produce food, electricity, paper, clothes, chemicals and many more things things that we use every day.
- A great place for people to enjoy walks, fishing and other water sports.
Did you know?
We use 2 full baths of water every day…...each!
In Britain we use 70% more water than we did 40 years ago!
Everyone can help care for the environment by using less water. Think about how you could do this in your house.
River wildlife
Rivers provide an important habitat for wildlife. In the National Park this includes fish such as salmon and trout; birds like dippers and kingfishers; amphibians like frogs and newts; mammals like otters and water voles and invertebrates like the white clawed crayfish.
