Why is farming important?

Friesan cattle make good dairy cows.   Sheep are farmed to produce lamb

Farming is important for lots of reasons:

  • Farmers look after the countryside - people like to visit beautiful countryside for recreation and this helps local businesses such as B&Bs, hotels, cafes and shops.
  • Farmland provides an important home for wildlife - click here to find out more
  • Farming provides food and many other products that we all use.
  • Jobs for local people - farming provides nearly 3000 jobs in the North York Moors although many are part time or seasonal.
