Its responsibilities include:
- Determining planning applications
- Authorising some enforcement action
- Deciding on the formation and review of planning policies
- Authorising Tree Preservation Orders

parking, amenity space and landscaping works at Underwood, Clack Lane, Osmotherley - NYM/2024/0454 - demolition of existing outbuilding and timber carport and erection of replacement timber clad garage/storage building and carport at 5a The Flat, Whitbygate, Thornton le Dale
- NYM/2023/0437 - retention of temporary electronic communications mast, ground based equipment and fencing (originally installed under emergency permitted development rights) until 30 September 2025 at existing temporary telecommunications installation, Bilsdale West Moor
- NYM/2024/0203 - Listed Building consent for creation of internal door opening, works to floor, plastering,
insulation to roof, refurbishment and reinstatement of forge equipment and installation of timber double glazed windows with shutters and oak stable door with glazed door behind at Forge Cottage, Chop Gate - NYM/2024/0553 - reorganisation of static and touring caravan areas comprising use of land for the siting of ten camping pods in lieu of ten touring caravan pitches and siting of two lodges and four camping pods in lieu of four static caravans for all year round holiday occupation together with installation of ground mounted solar panels at Whitby Holiday Park, Saltwick Bay
- NYM/2024/0448 - insertion of dropped kerb and creation of driveway (resubmission following the withdrawal of NYM/2024/0021) at 2 Whitby Road, Staithes
