The team provides specialist services (agri-environment and rural development, woodland and forestry, ecology, river management, archaeology, estate management) to deliver NPA’s first statutory purpose to “conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park.”

This Department runs some of our main environmental and landscape programmes, working closely with landowners and managers.

How does it work?

  • facilitates management agreements and grant schemes to further conservation priorities
  • seeks out external funding opportunities, and manages externally funded programmes with environmental and landscape purposes.
  • offers specialist advice internally and externally
  • works in partnership with government bodies and NGOs, to deliver shared objectives.
  • manages the North York Moors Historic Environment Record (HER)
  • serves Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) to ensure trees are protected from threat, deals with notifications for tree works in Conservation Areas and applications for works to trees protected by TPOs. Also deals with hedgerow removal applications
