Recreation and Wellbeing

Role of the Department

This Department manages the land holdings and customer facing properties owned by the Authority and undertakes much of the practical work throughout the National Park.

Through delegation agreements it manages the Public Rights of Way Network in both North Yorkshire Council and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council areas and the National Trails comprising the Cleveland Way, Wolds Way, a section of the England Coast Path and the establishment of the Coast to Coast path.

Through the Ranger Service it works closely with local communities and farmers/landowners to bring about environmental enhancements and access improvements and works to minimise conflicts that arise between visitors and local people.

The Outdoor Learning Team delivers a wide range of education, youth engagement and volunteering opportunities and works in partnership with other authorities and organisations to encourage a deeper awareness, understanding of, and involvement with the National Park by young people.
