Family festivals celebrate National Parks Week
To celebrate National Parks Week 2018, which takes place from 23-29 July, the North York Moors National Park Centres at Danby and Sutton Bank will each host a one-day festival of family fun with guided walks, children’s activities and craft demonstrations. The events mark the start and close of the annual celebration, which champions everything that is unique and special about National Parks.

What lies beneath? Archaeologists offer site tours at Beck Hole community excavation
Archaeologists in the North York Moors National Park who are investigating the hidden past of the Victorian mining industry are offering guided tours to visitors during July. The tours will run twice daily at 11am and 2pm from Tuesday 3 to Saturday 7 July, and again from Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 July.

Teesside University students inspired by the serpents, black dogs and witch hares of the North York Moors

Perspectives of the North York Moors: New exhibitions showcase how artists from near and far capture the beauty of the landscape
How do two artists living in sunny Somerset perceive the dramatic and moody landscape of the North York Moors? That’s the question answered by new exhibition ‘Northern Territories’, which opens this month at the Inspired By… Gallery at The Moors National Park Centre. Also on display is ‘Hidden Landscapes’, an exhibition of paintings, prints, textile work and sculptures by a group of artists and friends that each have strong local connections.

Local artists help draw up new geocache trail for Sandsend
A new family-friendly high tech treasure hunt has been created on the North York Moors coastline with the help of local artists. Devised by the North York Moors National Park as part of the ‘Moor to Sea’ project, it involves lino-cut illustrations created by six well-known local artists.

National Park Authority launch ‘frequent user’ permit for popular Roseberry Topping car park
The North York Moors National Park Authority has launched a ‘frequent user’ permit for its Newton-under-Roseberry car park for a trial period of one year. It is hoped the permit, which costs £22.50 and last for 12 months, will help ease the pressures caused by roadside parking in and around the village.
