The Explorer Club and Explorer Volunteers
Interested in visiting undiscovered parts of the North York Moors National Park? Want to learn new skills as a family? Keen to contribute to tasks to look after special places are around the National Park? Most of all do you want to come and have fun and be active outdoors as a family?
Families needed to lend a hand
The Explorer Club engages with families, meeting once a month, undertaking tasks to help look after the National Park and doing fun activities to understand more about the special places in the North York Moors.
Through the Explorer Club we create ‘ambassadors’ of all ages to promote the special qualities the North York Moors National Park has to offer.
We achieve these aims by exploring, with children and adults, the different habitats and features within the National Park. Alongside this, the families work towards gaining the John Muir Discovery Award. You can download a Mission Explore John Muir booklet here to inspire exploration as a family. You can also buy a Mission Explore National Parks from the John Muir website or pop into one of our visitor centres.
By giving the families opportunities to take part in a range of practical work tasks, we aim to encourage them to consider volunteering regularly in the North York Moors National Park in order to help sustain it for future generations.
- The Explorer Club is delivered over six sessions, one session a month for six months.
- On the completion of the initial six sessions, families can graduate to become Explorer Volunteers.
