Julia Burns' quirky, original hand-printed images have a contemporary edge but are all made using that most traditional of techniques - potato-printing. "All you need is a potato, some paint and a table top", says Julia, whose charming prints evoke her rural surroundings not least the little red hen that first inspired her.
Julia Burns grew up in a creative household, with an early interest in art stimulated by her father, an architect, who was passionate about aesthetics and design.
She took a foundation course at York Art College, followed by a place at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art at University College, London, and moved to North Yorkshire in1985.
Julia’s large-scale abstract work has been exhibited worldwide, including in London, Europe, Japan and America, and her paintings have been acquired by institutional and private collectors alike.
Her ‘Red Hen Originals’ brand came about almost by accident, after Julia was one of 248 internationally renowned artists invited to submit an artwork which could be sold in aid of the Tsunami Fund, set up following the Boxing Day disaster of 2004.
