With more than a fifth of the National Park’s dales and plateaus cloaked in wonderful woodland and forest, there are plenty of activities to immerse yourself in soothing tree-filled surroundings.
Forest Holidays’ hide their luxury cabins in idyllic woodland settings at Cropton and Keldy in the National Park. Walks and cycle rides set off from the door, try your hand at archery while thrill-seekers can tackle the zip wire.
Or join their Forest Ranger, Robin, who'll introduce you to a world of woodland secrets, bushcraft and survival skills, and soon woodland will become much more than just a beautiful backdrop.
Drawing on his knowledge and enthusiasm, Robin will bring the forest to life, whether it’s spotting nocturnal wildlife while using night vision equipment on an after-dark walk, foraging for wild food or showing you how to make a nettle rope.
Or maybe you'd just prefer to lie back in the outdoor hot tub with the sounds of the night forest around you. You may even be lucky enough to hear a nightjar churring.
Rewilding Adventure’s bushcraft experiences offer micro adventures where you come back de-stressed and with a renewed appreciation of forests, as well as a heap of wood crafting and back-to-nature camping skills.
You can join anything from an afternoon taster session right up to a full-on weekender where you’ll learn how to light a fire without matches, craft your own wooden spoons and bowls, build a shelter, sleep in a hammock, bake bread and discover an infinite fascination with trees and woodland wildlife.
Make the most of woodland by booking on a Rewilding Adventure.
The woodland at Dalby Forest surrounding High Dalby House is an oasis of calm, making it a perfect location to take part in one of the mindfulness and forest bathing sessions run by the retreat’s owners, Ian and Linda Robinson.
The physical and spiritual recharging continues back at the 17th country house where guests can unwind further by wandering through the gardens to the sounds of a stream gently trickling and birds singing.
High Dalby House is also a member of both the retreat association and the quiet garden movement, opening their garden for people to come and reflect, meditate and find peace.
Start your physical and spiritual recharging by booking your retreat.
