Farm visits


Farming is important to all our lives. Farmers produce the food that we eat and look after the countryside that we visit. A visit to a farm can provide great opportunities for learning across many subjects and can also be a memorable and fun experience for people of all ages.
The organisations listed below offer resources for teachers and some have a 'find a farm to visit' facility.

Farms set up to offer school / group visits in the North York Moors National Park
Vicarage Farm at Scawton near Helmsley is a small grassland farm with sheep and pet lambs, a superb example of a recreated meadow with lots of flowers to appreciate and identify, ancient dew pond that provides a habitat for newts and frogs, picnic area, fantastic views, ideally suited to offering visits to people with limited mobility. Bank House Farm Hostel in Glaisdale provides group accommodation for families, friends and clubs. Large landscaped garden with magnificent views, BBQ, fire-pit and running water, 12 miles from Whitby and a mile or so from the Coast-to-Coast path. Surrounded by public footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes and is on a working organic cattle & sheep farm. Website for further information.
