Frequently asked questions

Garlic by Mike NicholasGarlic by Mike Nicholas

Is there a cost to our company?

Although we do not charge for employee volunteering, donations are welcome to help us cover the purchase of materials for the task undertaken as well as tools and equipment such as gloves and saw blades.  If you would like to make a donation, please speak to the task leader prior to the task.

How many people can volunteer?

We will try to match the task to the number of volunteers attending, however as a rough guide we would ideally like a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 people on a task.

What will we need to bring?

  • You will need to wear stout footwear, ideally walking boots or wellingtons, no trainers please.  We have a limited supply of steel toe capped wellies available to borrow, should the task require these.
Old clothes you do not mind getting dirty.
Waterproofs – even if it is sunny when we start, the weather changes fast on the Moors, so it is best to have some with you.

Extra clothing, dependant on the season e.g. woolly hats in winter, sun hats in summer!

  • A packed lunch and plenty of drink (non alcoholic) especially in hot weather.

  • Insect repellent

    Sun cream

Do we have to fill in any forms?

We will ask all members of staff due to attend to complete and return a brief medical form before the task.  This enables our leaders to more accurately match tasks to individual volunteers.

What is a typical day like?

You and your staff will meet at the pre-arranged meeting point, usually at 10am.  You will be greeted by your task leader for the day and volunteers will be asked to sign in.  You will have a site and task briefing to explain the value and purpose of the work, followed by a health and safety talk.  Work will then commence with all task and techniques explained, no previous experience is necessary for any of our tasks.

When can we volunteer?

Each task is designed around your team, so as long as we have plenty of notice (ideally 2 months) we should be able to fit in with your schedule.
