Illusion is the First of All Pleasures
With an emphasis on light, movement and colour, Christine Pybus' oil paintings utilise the extra dimension afforded by thick oil paint and immediate brush-marks. It's a style that lends itself to many of her favourite subjects - billowing clouds, sparkling water and deep, crisp snow.
Born in Whitby, Christine Pybus left school for a career in communications, whilst indulging in her lifelong passion for painting whenever possible. She began to paint full time in 1997, opening her own gallery in Whitby in 1998, which she sold in 2007 to concentrate on her own work.
She paints in both oil and watercolour and her pictures are almost always completed on location. Christine travels extensively and has painted in Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.
Christine lectures on art history, and conducts painting courses and demonstrations. She is currently writing for ‘Leisure Painter’ magazine and has been included in a Sky 1 television documentary.
She was elected a member of the Fylingdales Group of Artists in 2000, and is featured in ‘Who’s Who In Art ‘(33rd–36th edition).
