All the latest news on preparation of the new North York Moors National Park Management Plan will be posted on this page.
What's happened so far?
Work on the new management plan began in December 2020. Once adopted, which we anticipate will be around April 2022, the new Management Plan will replace the current version of the Management Plan, which was published in 2016.
To help develop the plan, we have established three working groups, with a range of partners:
- Nature Recovery – including Natural England, Environment Agency, Forestry Commission, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Yorkshire Water, the Moorland Association, National Trust, Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership, and the Yorkshire Farming and Wildlife Partnership
- Landscapes for All – including North Yorkshire County Council, North York Moors Tourism Network, Welcome to Yorkshire, Make it York, Sustrans, Youth Hostel Association, Tees Health, Scarborough Borough Council, and the Newport Community Hub
- Living & Working - including North Yorkshire County Council, Hambleton District Council, Scarborough Borough Council, Ryedale District Council, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Tees Valley Combined Authority, North Yorkshire Moors Association, Historic England, the Country Land and Business Association, the National Farmers Union and the York/North Yorkshire Strategic Housing Partnership
From mid-February, we have been asking for 'Your Views', through a simple survey to find out what people value about the North York Moors National Park, what people thought were the challenges that it faced, and what changes were needed to make it an even better place in twenty year's time. 469 people had sent in comments by 12 April, thank you to all those who responded.
At the same time, we published a more detailed Working together page, which goes into more detail of what the National Park Authority expects some of the issues to be that will need addressing through the next Management Plan, and asked for views. We are still keen to hear any views throughout the preparation process, so if there are any comments you would like to make, please let us know by emailing: email@example.com.
What happens next?
We will be drafting the plan throughout 2021 and expect that we will be ready to ask for thoughts and opinions on a draft version around November 2021.
