Freya Horsley

Originally from the southwest of England, Freya Horsley has been living in Yorkshire since graduating with a First Class honours degree in Fine Art. Since then she has developed her painting practice, drawing on the landscape around her as well as on her travels further afield. Led by her responses to landscape, light and weather – and also by the process of painting itself – Freya attempts to capture the intangibility of the changes that rain, mist, sunlight, cloud, snow and wind bring to the face of the land.

James Morgan Williams

James Morgan Williams has worked in education, set design and illustration, as well as fulfilling a variety of commissions, from portraiture to mural work, as a freelance artist. He now lives and works in Saltburn, on the North Yorkshire coast, and his art reflects his interest in the drama of the physical, from storms at sea to the human figure.

Jan Richardson

Born in Lincolnshire in 1964, Jan Richardson studied Fine Art and Illustration at Grimsby and at Harrow School of Art. After moving to North Yorkshire with her family in 2008, she adopted a natural, free-flowing way of painting that evolved from her compulsive drawing of her surroundings. Through her paintings she tries to convey her experience of the spirit of a place, through its patterns, rhythms and emotion.

Caroline Riley

Caroline Riley grew up on the North York Moors and went on to study Textiles and Fashion at Winchester. She worked in London for several years before returning to Yorkshire and gradually switching to full-time painting and drawing. She now works from her studio in a converted tractor shed in Commondale, and is inspired by all things local, particularly trees, working in whatever medium best suits the subject.
