Dark Skies Festival (18 February - 6 March 2022)

Dark Skies Festival logo

Alongside the Yorkshire Dales National Park, we're celebrating our seventh Dark Skies Festival in February. We know how much you love your celestial activities, every year it's a pleasure to showcase just how special our dark skies are.

In December 2020, we were designated International Dark Sky Reserve status. Did you know our combined area of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales represents the largest protected area in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe? Now that's got to be something to celebrate!

It's a star-studded line up

We've got your annual favourites such as night zips at in Dalby Forest, ghost walks in Robin Hood's Bay, stargazing and trails at the National Park Centres, mindful meanders, astrophotography workshops and night navigation experiences.

For 2022 we're delighted to welcome new, exciting additions that include a dark skies exhibition, mindful night walk in Whitby, night time photography at Gilling Castle, art workshops and new moon gatherings.

Get involved in the Festival fun and see the full programme of events.

Book dark skies friendly accommodation

There's lots to see and do during the day too so why not plan a few days away! Take a look at dark skies friendly accommodation. They're businesses who've gone the extra mile to provide equipment and facilities so you can enjoy stargazing where you're staying.

Thanks to those who make it possible

We wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to all the wonderful individuals and activity providers who get involved every year and make our Dark Skies Festivals such a success! You help to share the awe and amazement of seeing a sky full of stars.
