What is the village enhancement scheme?

The North York Moors National Park Authority is preparing to launch a new Village Enhancement Scheme (VES) to replace the previous Village Caretaker Scheme.

This grant scheme will support villages across the National Park to deliver small-scale enhancements that align with the purposes and objectives of the National Park. The grant will provide one-off capital funding to support locally led and managed projects. The grant must be used to create new or enhanced assets; it cannot be used for routine maintenance or repair costs.

This scheme is open to all villages whose parish boundary is at least partially within the National Park. Applications are particularly encouraged from those villages who did not receive any support through the previous Village Caretaker scheme.

How to apply

If you would like to discuss a potential VES idea, please email general@northyorkmoors.org.uk with VES in the subject line. We will then be in touch to discuss your proposal.

A light touch formal application will be required in due course. You will be able to apply through a simple online form.

All eligible parishes and villages will be contacted about the launch of the application window. You will be asked to provide a short summary explaining what is proposed, why it is needed, and how it will benefit those who live and visit your village. You will also need to explain how it benefits the National Park. Please familiarise yourself with the National Park Management Plan to understand how your project can contribute to our shared outcomes for the North York Moors.

Any works funded through this scheme must be completed within 12 months of receiving the grant.
