What you can do

Cornfield Flowers by Alex CrippsCornfield Flowers by Alex Cripps

Whether you live here or are just visiting, there are lots of things you can do to help care for the National Park. Here are a few ideas:

If you want to be actively involved...

Join one of our volunteer groups

We have a range of indoor and outdoor opportunities for people willing to give some time to the National Park.

Help us to control Himalayan Balsam

Although nice to look at, Himalayan Balsam poses a threat to some of our most fragile ecosystems. You can help us to keep it under control.

Get involved in the North Yorkshire Turtle Dove project

If you manage land and are interested in advice, you wish to help with our surveys or if you think you have seen a Turtle Dove, get in touch.

Help us improve our knowledge of the wildlife in the National Park

If you are out and about in the National Park, it would help us if you would provide records of the flora and fauna that you see. It is possible to make useful records with no specialist knowledge.

Reporting wildlife crime

Find out how you can help by being our 'eyes and ears' in the countryside and report any sightings of dead or injured birds or poisoned bait sites as part of Operation Owl, a multi-agency initiative led by North Yorkshire Police.

Tell us if you find a problem on our paths

Nothing's perfect and things change from day to day. Please tell us if you find a problem on our rights of way, that way we can put it right!

Join a National Park event

We run a variety of events and activities so take a look at what we have to offer and see if there is something for you.

Make our website a favourite

We'll tell you what new opportunities there are to be involved in the work of the National Park on our website so do visit us regularly. We sometimes ask for your opinion on our plans for the future and what we're doing. That way you can help shape the future of the National Park.

Get social with us

Why not follow us on Facebook or Twitter - it's great to share favourite photos of favourite places. You can also sign up to follow our weekly blog, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at some of our conservation work.

Or do your own thing

Visit our National Park Centres with your friends

The Moors National Park Centre and Sutton Bank National Park Centre are great places to visit. They tell you all about the National Park and give you ideas of places to go to explore further. The more people understand what makes the North York Moors special, the more it will be loved and cared for by those who use it.

Be proud of the North York Moors

Our very own countryside code helps you enjoy the North York Moors and understand the sensitivity of this protected landscape.

Find out more about the National Park by purchasing one of our official guides or walking and cycling routes from our National Park Centres at Danby and Sutton Bank.

There's an increasing range of local produce and artwork available from the North York Moors. Find out where to buy it from our Made in... webpages or visit Taste of the North York Moors to read the stories behind our passionate producers and chefs.

The Inspired by... gallery at The Moors National Park Centre at Danby has a changing programme of work inspired by the North York Moors.

This independent charity works to safeguard the National Park. It campaigns, runs an events programme and issues a quarterly magazine Voice of the Moors.
