What you can do
Whether you live in the National Park or are just visiting there are lots of things you can do to help care for the National Park. Here are a few ideas:
If you want to be actively involved...
We have a range of indoor and outdoor opportunities for people willing to give some time to the National Park.
Although nice to look at, Himalayan Balsam poses a threat to some of our most fragile ecosystems. You can help us to keep it under control.
If you manage land and are interested in advice, you wish to help with our surveys or if you think you have seen a Turtle Dove, get in touch.
If you are out and about in the National Park, it would help us if you would provide records of the flora and fauna that you see. It is possible to make useful records with no specialist knowledge.
Find out how you can help by being our 'eyes and ears' in the countryside and report any sightings of dead or injured birds or poisoned bait sites as part of Operation Owl, a multi-agency initiative led by North Yorkshire Police.
Nothing's perfect and things change from day to day. Please tell us if you find a problem on our rights of way, that way we can put it right!
We run a variety of events and activities so take a look at what we have to offer and see if there is something for you.
We'll tell you what new opportunities there are to be involved in the work of the National Park on our website so do visit us regularly. We sometimes ask for your opinion on our plans for the future and what we're doing. That way you can help shape the future of the National Park.
Year of Green Action
2019 is the Year of Green Action – a 12 month drive to get more people from all backgrounds involved in projects to improve the natural world. Throughout 2019 there will be events and activities across the North York Moors aiming to help people connect, protect and enhance nature.
You can join events and activities planned across the North York Moors or try one of our challenges in your own time.
Get social with us
Why not follow us on Facebook or Twitter - it's great to share favourite photos of favourite places. You can also sign up to follow our weekly blog, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at some of our conservation work.
Or do your own thing
Visit our National Park Centres with your friends
The Moors National Park Centre and Sutton Bank National Park Centre are great places to visit. They tell you all about the National Park and give you ideas of places to go to explore further. The more people that understand what makes the North York Moors special, the more it will be loved and cared for by the people who use it.
