Can you help?
We are trying to improve our knowledge of the variety of wildlife that exists within the National Park. This enables us to focus our conservation efforts appropriately and helps us to take action if any species begins to decline.
We would like to encourage anyone who is out in the National Park to provide records of the flora and fauna that they see. It is possible to make useful records with no specialist knowledge.
A record is simply a species seen at a place by somebody on a given date.

We will add your record to our system after making some checks if necessary. Your records help to build a picture of wildlife in the North York Moors.
The National Park is interested in all records - please don't assume that we already know. However, at present we are especially interested in receiving records of sightings and signs of the species/species groups listed below. Many of these are Biodiversity Action Plan species.
- Adders
- Lizards
- Grass Snakes
- Great Crested Newts
- Wading birds (snipe, lapwing etc)
- Birds of prey
- Orchids
- White clawed crayfish
- Water voles
- Otters
- Bats
- Turtle Doves
